Truffle Shuffle #1: Message To Bears

Truffle Shuffle is a series of interviews with Oxford bands where we sit them down, crack out the iPod and hit "SHUFFLE ALL"! We then discuss the first 6 tracks to appear on the playlist, investigating their importance (or maybe insignificance) to the person in question. First up is Message To Bears front-man Jerome Alexander.

Gunning For Tamar – Video Interview

Gunning For Tamar – Video Interview

With Gunning For Tamar headlining our upcoming live showcase at the Port Mahon (This Saturday people! Buy tickets here!), we thought that it would be as good an opportunity as any to catch up with the boys and reflect on their past 12 months on the rise in Oxford, touring Europe and finishing 2011 signed to Alcopop! Records.

M83 @ O2 Academy Oxford – 24/01/12

27 January 2012

The prospect of seeing M83 live at all is a pretty damn exciting one. The fact that in the past year they have released one of the most extraordinary albums of the year, and toured with gargantuan stadium bands like The Killers, makes this prospect even more mouthwatering. Frontman Anthony Gonzales has clearly been taking notes watching his tour mates, finding a new found vocal confidence and a sprinkle of rock star posturing is evident. Words by Dexter Bush.

New Song: Andrew Bird

New Song: Andrew Bird

26 January 2012

One of the most addictive songwriters out there (beautiful violinist, wonderful singer, better whistler than a bloody song bird!), Andrew Bird has shared a track from this upcoming new album Break It Yourself which will be released via Bella Union on March 6th. ‘Eyeoneye’ will be familiar territory for those who are already fans of Andrew Bird, but if he’s slipped under your radar up until now, it’s a fair reflection of Bird’s noisier, more band oriented sound.

New Song: Fair Ohs

New Song: Fair Ohs

26 January 2012

With one of the most exhuberantly fun album releases last year, Fair Ohs are back with more sunshine punk effected pop. Everything Is Dancing was one of the standout UK debut albums from last year, and just as easy as it was to have missed it, those who did give the album a listen would have found it near impossible to stop playing it throughout the summer months. Lukcily, they are back to turn the grey skies a kind of neon purple with their new single 'Salt Flats' which is due for release on X-Ray Recordings.

Richard Walters – Young Trees EP

Richard Walters – Young Trees EP

25 January 2012

Young Trees was released digitally towards the end of last year, but it’s physical incarnation only hit the shops this month. When the Guardian featured him in May 2009, this is how they described him as “...a male singer-songwriter that we actually enjoy!” Hinting that, although the genre of “singer-songwriter” may have its limitations, Richard Walters has something unique to offer any willing listener. Words by Laura Hall.

The Agony & The Ecstasy will be released three days after this very event.

The Horrors @ O2 Acadmey Oxford – 19/01/12

The Horrors @ O2 Acadmey Oxford – 19/01/12

24 January 2012

The Horrors have all but erased every trace of their previous uber-trendy grarage-rock gothic pseudonym-covered past. It is almost completely understandable, there is only a passing resemblance to that period of their career left in their sound, and now they are so much more. An amazing set from a band at the forefront of british guitar music. Words by Matt Chapman.
