Truffle Shuffle #3: Secret Rivals

It's time to discuss the importance (or perhaps insignificance) of six tracks which appear on a Shuffle All Songs playlist. This week is the turn of punky power-pop tykes Secret Rivals.

Live Preview: Fixers

16 May 2012

Tomorrow night sees a very fine homecoming indeed. Having blown us away at Truck Festival 2011, supported Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs in the belly of the UK's oldest museum and, more recently, performed in a series of tour dates across the US, it's safe to say that Thursday night at the O2 Academy Oxford will be a proud homecoming for both the band and the fans who have supported them since day one. Support comes from Pet Moon and Beta Blocker & The Body Clock. Tickets cost £7.50 and can be purchased here.

New Animal Collective Album On The Way!

New Animal Collective Album On The Way!

14 May 2012

Days after releasing a fresh single, Animal Collective have announced the release of a new album. Centipide Hz will be released on September 3rd this year via Domino Records. Being as elusive as ever, the band have only released an obscure preview video which seems to reveal the track-listing of the impending LP, and if that is the case, the two singles we heard a few days ago do not feature on the new record. It's hard to gauge what the record will sound like from the trailer.

New Video: Trailer Trash Tracys

New Video: Trailer Trash Tracys

14 May 2012

With a name like this you half expect Trailer Trash Tracys to be creating toothless alt.country-rock, spouting lyrics about fucking Aunty Knuckle or Grandpap T-Bone's prize cattle. Not arty, dream-pop that's for sure. Well, that's what you gonna get! At the beginning of the year London quartet Trailer Trash Tracys released their debut album Ester, a gorgeous, beguiling collection of pop songs with an intriguingly offbeam slant which quickly earned them glowing accolades from the broadsheets to the style press. Watch the video for 'Los Angered' here.

Beach House – Bloom

Beach House – Bloom

11 May 2012

Evident even from their self-titled debut, Beach House are a band who are at home with their own sound: unique, rich and ambient soundscapes consisting of Alex Scally’s guitar coupled with Victoria Legrande’s keyboards and breathy, sultry vocals. To continue with this formula six years and four albums later would seem risky to many less beloved and acclaimed bands. Beach House have honed this sound until it has become signature and exemplary whilst still evolving and expanding from album to album. Words by Jon Clark.

Just in case you missed it...Animal Collective dropped some fresh tunes recently. Best news we have heard all year? It will certainly take a lot to top it!
